Biography

A native of Earlville, IL, which he calls his "center of the universe," Myers has been married to his high school sweetheart Barb for forty years. They have four children and nine grandchildren. In 34 years of teaching he has received numerous awards including finalist for Illinois State Board of Education "Teacher of the Year" (1980) and was featured nation-wide as "Teacher of the Month" on Channel 1 educational television for Whittle Communications, Inc. (April 1996).

Other highlights of his teaching career include his founding and directing the Ottawa High School Fine Arts Festival in 1975, coaching the varsity football team to its first playoff season in 1988 and publishing the student literary/art magazine Passageway for many years. For five years he produced his own weekly radio program "Myers' Back Porch" which featured his own stories and the writing of his creative writing and literature students. Presently Myers is working on a book of his personal tales and adventures, and he writes a weekly newspaper column "Prairie Roots" for his home town paper The Earlville Post.
